Using it at a wet, dusty or crowded counter

Most billing software is designed for a dry desk with a keyboard on it. A lot of Indian retail does not happen there. It happens over a wet slab, beside a cart in the sun, in a paint shop where everything has a film on it, or at a counter with six people waiting and one hand already holding something. This is what that means in practice.

Wet hands, and the touchscreen

A capacitive screen stops responding reliably when the finger or the glass is wet — taps land in the wrong place or do not register, which at a busy counter reads as the app being slow when it is really the water. There is no software fix for it, so the practical answers are all physical.

1. Keep a dry cloth beside the phone rather than beside the sink. The cloth being within reach of the billing hand is the whole trick, and it is the one people skip.
2. A thin zip-lock bag over the phone works with a touchscreen and costs almost nothing. It survives splashes and wet fingers, and it is what most flower and vegetable sellers who bill on a phone already do.
3. Wipe the screen, not just the hand. A film of water on the glass causes the same missed taps as a wet finger.

One hand, and where the phone sits

At a counter the other hand is usually full. The app is built for that — the billing screen's controls are large, the quantity stepper moves in the unit the item is sold in so loose goods do not need the keypad, and scanning a barcode or a shelf label avoids typing entirely. None of that helps if the phone is lying flat on the slab where it gets wet and cannot be read at an angle.

1. Stand the phone up at the dry end of the counter, angled towards you. A ₹100 stand is the single biggest improvement most shops make, and it is not something we sell.
2. Put it where you already look — beside the weighing scale, not behind the till. You read the scale and type the number, so the two should be in one glance.
3. Keep it on charge at the counter if the shop is open all day. The app is written so a dead tower costs you nothing; a dead battery costs you everything, and that is the honest asymmetry.

A crowd, and the queue behind it

The thing that actually slows a busy counter is waiting for a screen. That is the reason the bill is written to the phone before anything is sent anywhere: there is no spinner between taking the money and the sale being recorded, whether the signal is good, bad or gone. If somebody is waiting, finish the bill and send it afterwards — the receipt can go out on WhatsApp once the queue has cleared, and the sale is already saved either way.

The part no app can fix

A phone in a bucket of water is gone, and a juice counter, a vegetable slab and a dairy fridge are the three places it is most likely to happen. We cannot make a handset waterproof and will not pretend the software changes that risk at all.

What it changes is the consequence. Everything that has synced is on the server, so signing in on any other Android phone with the same number brings the shop back — items, prices, bills, khata balances. What is at risk is only what was made while the signal was down and had not gone up yet, which is exactly why the waiting count sits on the home screen instead of being hidden in a settings page.
