AT THE COUNTER

Two quintals of feed and ten kilos of mineral mixture

7:20 am

He milks forty animals and buys the same thing every week, on account, settling when the dairy pays him. The bill is two lines; the thing that matters is that the account is right by the end of the month, and that it is right without anyone adding up a book.

A cattle feed shop opens on **udhaar outstanding**, and the low-stock threshold starts at twenty rather than five — the smallest quantity worth warning about here is a different size from the smallest quantity in a shop that sells objects.

SAME APP, YOUR SHOP

Three things that are different here

Personalisation in this product is defaults, a bounded set of tools, and vocabulary — never a separate app per trade. What follows is the whole of what changes.

Kilos first, quintals second

The bulk lines — feed, green fodder, silage — are quoted per quintal, and everything that comes out of a sack in smaller amounts is kilos. It is the same pair of units a steel counter uses and the opposite order, because the default sale is different.

Marked as selling to trade

A feed shop's customer is a dairy farmer buying to produce, not a household buying to consume. The shop is set as trade-facing and what the app assumes follows from that.

The month is the cycle, and the ledger holds it

Nearly every regular here pays monthly, in step with when the dairy pays them. The khata is built for a balance that runs rather than for an occasional favour, and it stays owner-only.

WHAT ARRIVES SET UP

What a cattle feed gets on the first screen

Not a demo. This is the actual configuration the app applies when you pick Cattle Feed at sign-up — the same data the app itself reads.

The units, in this order

  • Kg
  • Quintal
  • Pack
  • Litre

The first one is the default, because it is what this trade sells most of. Every quantity in the app carries its unit — there is no bare number anywhere.

The tools this turns on

  • Stock, in units
  • Wholesale pricing

And nothing else. A trade is only offered at sign-up once every tool it needs has actually shipped — 59 of 172 trades pass that test today.

The items it starts you with

Tap to add, then set your own price. They are a guess at your shelf and you will correct some of them — that is expected, and it is why they live on the server rather than inside an app release.

The starter items Karobari offers a cattle feed, with the unit each is counted in.

Twelve of 20. The rest of the pack is in the app — this table is here so you can check the list is really your shelf, and a dozen rows settles that faster than 20 does.

Low-stock warnings start at 20, which is a starting point for this trade rather than a rule. Change it per item.

The other end of the same trade

Try it on your counter

Free, on Google Play, and set up by you in the time it takes to put ten items in — the ones you sell most. The rest of the shelf goes in as it sells.
