What usually brings someone to this page
You are almost certainly here because you are running two records. Goods came off a shelf in one place and money went onto a ledger in another, and at the end of the month they have to agree — which means somebody reconciles them, and that somebody is you, at night.
For context rather than as a claim about any particular build: a standalone digital credit ledger — the bahi-khata as an app, commonly without the sale itself in it. Everything below this line is about Karobari.
Three things, all of them checkable today
Nothing here is a plan or a next release. Each one is behaviour you can put a phone in aeroplane mode and confirm within a minute of installing.
Udhaar is a payment method, not a second app
It is one of the choices on the payment sheet of the bill you were already making. So the goods, the amount, the date and the customer are one record with one number on it, and there is nothing to reconcile — the ledger entry and the stock movement came from the same tap.
The balance is derived, never overwritten
Every entry is a row and the balance is worked out from the rows. A payment is another entry rather than an edit, so there is no version of this where a number is quietly corrected and no way to tell — which is the property that matters the day a customer disputes what they owe.
You see what he already owes before you agree to more
The outstanding balance is on the screen at the moment you are deciding, not in a book at the back of the shop. That is the whole of the decision a shopkeeper actually makes, and moving it to where the decision happens is most of the value of writing udhaar down at all.
Your shelf does not get typed in again
The stock list imports from a CSV — Stock → bring in a list, up to 2,000 rows, loose column matching. **Balances do not.** There is no khata import: opening balances are typed in as a first entry per customer, because a ledger assembled from a file nobody checked is a ledger the shopkeeper does not trust, and an untrusted balance is worse than no balance. Do it for the ten or fifteen people who actually carry an amount.
The same screen takes text you paste rather than a file — a supplier's WhatsApp message, or a list an assistant handed back — and strips the sentence above it and the sign-off below it before reading. Nobody has to produce a clean file to get started.
Why there is no comparison table on it
A matrix with somebody else's name down one column is a set of claims about a product we do not build and cannot track, and it ages into a lie the first time they ship. So this site does not keep one. Khatabook is named here because it is the word you searched for, and for no other reason — every statement above is about Karobari, including the long one about what it will not do for you.
